ABOUT US
OUR IMPACT
Head Start prepares children and their families for success in school and throughout life.
By participating in the Southern Oregon Head Start and Early Head Start school readiness programs, children not only develop social/emotional well-being and academic skills, but parents also acquire the necessary tools to make informed choices when it comes to their child’s education and well-being.
OUR APPROACH
We are much more than just preschool! Our teachers and family services staff partner with our students’ families to ensure children are well-prepared to succeed in school and beyond. We know that well-supported and informed parents are key to childrens’ success, which is why all our services are truly family-focused. We encourage parent participation and provide parents with many leadership opportunities throughout the year.
OUR FOCUS
Southern Oregon Head Start staff value and respect the uniqueness of each child and family while they provide encouragement and support to set and reach individualized goals. Our school readiness programs are goal-driven, data-focused, and unique to each center’s community and needs.
OUR RESULTS
Our records show that the majority of children coming into our programs do not have the developmental skills expected for their age. By the end of their first year of enrollment, however, roughly 90% of children reach their age-appropriate benchmarks in social/emotional development, fine and gross motor skills, math, as well as language and literacy skills.
