WAYS TO HELP

VOLUNTEER

Head Start prepares children and their families for success in school and throughout life. And we need volunteers to help us! We have many opportunities for volunteers at Head Start and Early Head Start.

We’re looking for kind, loving, and patient people to help in classrooms. Activities may include:

  • Rocking babies
  • Playing with children
  • Reading with children
  • Sharing particular skills or knowledge with children (dancing, animals, careers)
  • Nurturing for a lonely, tired or upset child

Activities outside the classroom include:

  • Office help
  • Preparing materials for classrooms
  • Helping with field trips
  • Designing and publishing newsletters
  • Custodial work

APPLYING TO VOLUNTEER

You must complete the following steps PRIOR to being permitted in any Head Start or Early Head Start site to do volunteer work, observations or student practicum.

STEP TWO

After your paperwork has been received by Head Start Human Resources and has been approved, your contact information will be forwarded to the center that best meets your needs. The center will contact you to set up a schedule for your observations or practicum.
