POLICY COUNCIL
We strongly believe in parents & caregivers as leaders.
Head Start believes that parents and caregivers should have a voice in the decision-making and direction of the agency. Our Policy Council consists of peer-elected parents and caregivers who work closely with the Board of Directors and key management staff to make decisions about our agency’s spending, classroom curriculums, facilities, hiring, and more!
Policy Council members are elected by the parents of children enrolled in the program. The Policy Council meets regularly as a group. Members can serve for one year at a time, and for up to five years.

WORKING TOGETHER
Policy council is an opportunity for parents to share their unique perspective about their community and center needs with head start management and our board of directors. Head Start created the Policy Council as a formal leadership and policy-making role for parents. Today, every Head Start and Early Head Start program must have a Policy Council as part of its leadership structure.
If you are looking for an opportunity to advocate for the needs of your child, travel and attend state and national conferences, and be a representative voice for your center, Policy Council is the place for you.
