Welcome to the LISTO Family Literacy Program at Southern Oregon Child & Family Council.
The Spanish word “Listo” means bright and ready. Listo is a state of the art family literacy model. From November until June thirty families bring their children to Howard Elementary School two evenings each week.
At
Listo:
 | Infants and toddlers build relationships with loving caregivers, |
| 3, 4, and 5 year-old Hispanic children play in a supportive preschool environment in Spanish in order to gain ready to learn skills. |
| Children grades K through 8 get homework tutoring and enjoy Spanish reading activities that strengthen their opportunities for success as bilingual and bicultural learners. |
| Parents participate in English and basic adult education classes. |
| Adults also have support group time which covers parenting skills, community involvement and health education. |
| Each week parents enjoy literacy activities with their children. |
| Summer field trips take Listo to places like the Jackson Pool. |
The
Listo Family Literacy Program offers culturally, linguistically, and
developmentally appropriate activities that meet and support the educational
needs of all family members.
Listo is a collaboration of Southern Oregon Head Start, Southern Oregon ESD/. ESL Program, and Rogue Community College.
