Ready to Learn Program

Southern Oregon Head Start is pleased to partner with  Grants Pass School District to help children enter kindergarten “ready to learn.” Grants Pass School District received an Oregon Community Foundation (OCF) Ready to Learn Program grant. The goal of the project “ is to ensure success for all students entering GPSD7.  The more effectively we can communicate with PreK programs, the more success our students will potentially achieve.”

The school district, Head Start and Early Childhood Services will attend a two day training, complete a community assessment and develop an action plan for connecting early care and learning services with elementary school.

Boomers and Babies

Oregon Community Foundation is generously providing $5,000 to help us assess our current volunteer program efforts and to improve our processes and systems to ensure an effective program for both our program and the volunteers. The purpose of this project is to recruit and retain volunteers particularly boomer-age volunteers who can significantly enrich individual children’s experiences, as well as the classroom as a whole. Boomer age volunteers contribute any number of ways including providing children extra nurturing and individual attention for increased learning, sharing knowledge and expertise, or providing office assistance.

Department of Human Services (DHS)

Head Start provides parenting classes to help parents learn about child development and how to handle issues that many parents face. We are pleased to be able to open some of these classes to other families in the community through additional funding from DHS.
